Historical Museum Education Programs
The Historical Museum of Southern Florida explores the fascinating past and dynamic present of South Florida and the Caribbean. Through exhibitions, education programs and publications, the museum seeks to enhance the community’s quality of life by promoting an understanding of the past in order to inform the present.

All of our education programs are designed to provide age- and grade-level appropriate experiences, while focusing on different learning modalities. Critical thinking is elicited as students compare and contrast the past and present and are encouraged to visualize and discuss what the future may be like, based on patterns of the past. All programs are correlated to state educational standards, focusing on the content strands assessed through the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). The programs also address curriculum areas beyond the social studies, including language arts, mathematics and science, where applicable.

The following are valued sponsors of the Historical Museum’s educational programs:
Macy*s, Peacock Foundation, Inc., Dr. and Mrs. Michael Rosenberg, Dade Community Foundation, Florida Power and Light, A&E TV-History Channel, Comcast, American Association of University Women, Rotary Club of Allapattah.

Teacher Advisory Committee
Teachers’ advice is highly valued and appreciated. We invite you to join our Teacher Advisory Committee, which assists the museum by reviewing current programs and developing ideas for new programs. The group helps museum education staff to focus on providing quality, professional programs for students and assisting teachers in meeting Sunshine State educational standards and curricular needs. The Teacher Advisory Committee meets twice per year for a two-hour dinner meeting. Please call the Director of Education at 305.375.1492 to join.
