Curator’s Cabinet
Go behind the scenes at the Historical Museum and learn how museums operate. While touring the museum’s Research Center and engaging in historical document analysis, your group will not only gain knowledge of Florida history, but also understand what a curator does, how objects are preserved and how exhibitions are created.
Students will:
- enhance their critical thinking skills and learn about different sources historians use
- tour the museum’s storage and preparation areas as well as the exhibition galleries
- Learn about primary resource sources—photographs, maps, personal accounts or newspapers

African American History Tour
Experience the complex history of South Florida’s black history on this guided tour of the museum’s Tropical Dreams: A People’s History of South Florida gallery. Creative and critical thinking skills along with observation will be practiced through discussion and investigation of:
- the African slave trade
- the resistance to slavery
- Black/Seminole relations
- the impact of the Civil War and Jim Crow laws on American history
- pivotal moments in the struggle for equality in the 1950s and 1960s, particularly events unfolding in South Florida

Women’s History Tour
Explore the diverse contributions of women to American history while on an interactive tour of the museum’s permanent exhibition gallery, Tropical Dreams: A People’s History of South Florida, while examining women’s experiences in Florida and the U.S.
Students will:
- gain an understanding of gender relations among the Seminoles
- learn about women’s lives on the frontier
- investigate the evolving status of women’s legal rights

Witness the human history of our great state on a tour of the museum’s permanent exhibition gallery, Tropical Dreams: A People’s History of South Florida.
Students will:
- learn about Florida’s importance to the past, present and future development of the United States
- investigate our country’s growth and development from various points of views including Native Americans and colonists
- engage in reenactments

Archaeology: Dig History!
Uncover the past during this two-part program. At the museum, students will learn about the discovery of the Miami Circle, followed by a visit to the actual Miami Circle site.
Students will:
- tour the museum’s pre-historic gallery, First Arrivals
- examine artifacts found at the site
- engage in an excavation and discover artifacts, using fundamental archaeological methods and tools
$285 for a 2 hour program for up to 20 students
